Mackey Howe chose three types of animals to use for this self portrait - turtles, rams, and octopuses. He used elements from each to disguise an image of himself. The result is an intensely personal composite that illustrates how formal biological structures, even across species, often have more in common than not. Once abstracted, horns begin to look like tentacles, which begin to look like shells, which begin to look like anything from skin to beaks or fur.
This is the first of an eventual series of photographs.
