This is a conceptual project based on a study conducted by researchers at Nottingham Trent University in 2015. The study found that the average person between the ages of 18 and 33 checks their phone 85 times per day. Before the images in this series were made, each model was asked to estimate how often they believe they check their phone per day. Each models’ response was superimposed on their final portrait, which has them holding their phone over their eyes.

The title of this project was taken from a song called Fake Empire by The National. Click here to view a video sampling the song.
